Strengthening LGBTQ+ Community Responses to Disclosures of Sexual Violence

LGBTQ+ people of all genders and sexualities experience sexual violence, yet many do not seek formal support. Instead, they often turn to friends, partners, and loved ones. How we respond in those moments matters.

At Knuckles Animation Studio, we were proud to partner with Say It Out Loud and ACON Health to create a series of video resources that empower our communities to respond to disclosures of sexual violence with care, compassion, and confidence.

Created by the community, for the community, these videos offer practical, trauma-informed guidance on supporting survivors, addressing stigma, and navigating difficult conversations. They cover topics such as how to help a friend, recognize structural barriers, and care for yourself in the process.

Our team led the full production of this series, from concept development through to delivery. In addition to animation, we handled all aspects of live-action production, including casting, direction, and post-production. We intentionally assembled a crew that brought sensitivity and lived experience to the project, ensuring the production process remained safe, respectful, and grounded in community care.

These videos are publicly available on the Say It Out Loud website and are also featured in Navigating Disclosures, a workshop designed to further equip community members and service providers with the skills to respond to disclosures of sexual violence in compassionate and affirming ways.

Every element of the series was thoughtfully crafted to reflect real experiences and provide meaningful, actionable guidance. We’re proud to be part of a project that empowers people with the skills to make a real difference in the lives of the LGBTIQ+ community.
