Understanding & Reporting Hate Crimes

The Engagement and Hate Crimes Unit of the NSW Police Force partnered with us to create some animated video content to raise awareness and help prevent hate crimes and incidents across the state. The first video featured three scenarios explaining to the public what hate crimes and hate incidents are, how to report them, and what to do if you witness one. The second video featured Assistant Commissioner Mark Walton appealing to the public to report hate. We collaborated with the Unit to develop these resources, which included scripts, bespoke character design, 2-D animation and graphic design for a supportive print package and internal branding bundle. Additionally, the video and print materials were translated into four languages and we provided edited cut downs for release on social media in all five languages.

We worked closely with the Engagement and Hate Crimes Unit to develop engaging content that represents the NSW Police Force and the many different kinds of people who may experience hate. During the development process, we ran focus groups with invested community members, who provided invaluable feedback. The involvement of represented groups also helped strengthen ties to the community and to encourage reporting as they all share an investment in the campaign’s success.

Alongside the videos, we developed a coordinating print package that included a poster, pamphlet, and small business sized card for display in police stations, government and council offices, local businesses and other community areas. Some additional digital branding assets were also developed for the Unit, including an identity guide, office sign, intranet banner, power point templates, and social media templates.
